Keep your "Heads Up" and work safe!

These are six stories, all about how…

By Matt King

For some reason I thought of the intro to Fresh Prince of Bel Air when I started writing this. But when I think about it, safety stories, are always “all about how.”

When you read a safety story, you see how you should and shouldn’t act in a workplace, you see the effects of poor safety, but you also see the work that goes into preventing it.

It’s certainly true of this week’s stories. You’ll learn that workplace safety affects everyone, from an NHL player to a driver passing by. It affects the young and the old and anyone connected to them. These are six stories, all about how… safety matters.

  • Men At Work – it’s not just a band… A construction company reminds drivers to slow down and pay attention.
  • Way on down in the ol’ south… Workplace fatalities are down 25 percent in Missouri. This despite the number of overall workplace fatalities in the United States remaining roughly the same.
  • Working safely on the ice… The Lethbridge Herald has an opinion piece connecting the National Hockey League’s head hits to an issue of workplace safety.
  • Paying tribute on the ice… An Alberta community has dedicated their rebuilt hockey rink to a young worker who was killed last year on the job.
  • Remembering and following up… WorkSafe New Brunswick is investigating a workplace accident that killed one man and left two other people with serious injuries.
  • In memoriam… A 53-year-old B.C. man has died in a workplace logging accident.

Remember, work smart, work safe.
