Work Smart. Work Safe.
Keep your "Heads Up" and work safe!

Drop some safety beatz, and you could win!

By Matt King

Note: this contest is now over.

Young Alberta workers, it’s contest time at Heads Up! That’s right, we’re having a contest, and if you enter, you could win an iPad 2. You could play all the Angry Birds you want on that thing! I think there are other things you can do on them, but I don’t have one, so, you know… if you win, please accept my sincere jealousy.

The new contest is inspired by a little video we did way back in May. If you don’t remember, or if, for some reason, you haven’t seen it yet (why haven’t you seen it yet?!), here’s a refresher:

Now, the contest is simple: put your lyrical pens to musical paper and write and perform a safety rap of your own.

Once you’ve written your track, get it on video and upload it to YouTube. Then, get it to us, either through direct messages on Facebook or Twitter, or send it on that old tymey email thing at headsupyws@gmail.com. You have until midnight October 31st to get your videos in, after which we’ll take a look and judge for ourselves who the winner is. The winner will be notified December 1st.

Here are some guidelines:

  1. You must be an Alberta resident under 25. We want to get young workers rapping about young worker safety issues. Take inspiration from your own workplace, or, if you don’t work, think about what possible issues can come up in the workplace. For inspiration, comb through our blog – there, you’ll find loads of safety situations and tips to inspire you.
  2. No obscenities or cursing. Sure, listen to Kanye, A$AP Rocky or whoever your favourite rapper is for inspiration, but don’t imitate their swearing. Keep it clean, folks.
  3. All entries must consist of AT LEAST two (2) verses.
  4. Entries must be submitted via Facebook, Twitter or email by midnight of October 31st. That’s right, the end of this month! Get going now!
  5. By sending us your video, you give us permission to publish not only your video, but also your name on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as our blog.
  6. The prize of this contest is, as mentioned, an iPad 2. You are free to enter in pairs, but there will only be one iPad to give away. We don’t want to go all Solomon on it, so you and your partner will need to decide how to divide it yourself.
  7. If you are an employee of WCB-Alberta, you cannot enter. Sorry, me.

So, what are you waiting for? Go drop some safety beatz!
