Is it just a bad day or could it be something more?

Ever just not feel like yourself?

Maybe you were late to work and your day is off to a rough start, maybe you had a fight with your friend and it’s left you on edge, or maybe you’re not sure why you’re feeling out of sorts.

For some people, not feeling like themselves is a daily occurrence and they’re not sure how to get out of the slump.

Yesterday the Canadian Mental Health Association hosted Not Myself Today – a mental health awareness day to bring attention to mental health and mental illness in the workplace.

Each day 500,000 Canadians miss work due to issues with mental illness.

Sometimes safety at work goes beyond the obvious dangers. Safety at work also encompasses our mental and emotional well-being.

If you notice that a coworker seems down, ask how they’re doing. It could be that they’re just having a bad day, or it could be more. It never hurts to ask “What’s wrong?” or “Is everything OK?” Showing concern and simply listening can be the support someone may need to help them confront and deal with their mental health issues.

Although the day has passed, it’s still important to spread awareness about mental health and how it can affect us. Find out more, take the pledge, and you can even create your own mood badge for the day:

I made a mood badge for myself today:
