Work Smart. Work Safe.
Keep your "Heads Up" and work safe!

Who We Are, Now and Then

By Matt King

I remember when I first joined the Heads Up team. I was a summer student at the time, and I remember sitting in a meeting room. At the time, the team was made up of Chris, Megan and me, and I remember sitting there, a little nervous, unsure of what I had gotten myself into. But then the meeting started and any anxiety I had was alleviated immediately.

Megan began talking, quite animatedly I might add, about the purpose of Heads Up, about how it was far more likely to be injured as a young worker, and how important it was to let young workers know about working smart and working safely.

That was two years ago. Heads Up itself has been around since 1999, and the team has shifted and changed over time. Some of you have been with us from the start, but others haven’t. In fact, maybe you are reading our blog for the first time, or maybe you went to our Facebook or Twitter pages for the first time and soon found yourself here.

If that’s the case, or even if it’s not, allow us to introduce ourselves.

Heads Up is a WCB-Alberta based group that wants to see young workers, aged 18-24, stay safe in the workplace. We’re passionate about sharing safety information, stories and perspectives.

When going into a new job, you need to know how to stay safe, to know your environment and to stay alert to any possible hazards. We’ll be here for you if you get hurt, but we really don’t want you to get hurt at all.

So, if you are new to our site, comb through our archived posts. Hopefully they can help you. Think there should be something else safety-related we should cover? Let us know in the comments below.

As always, work smart, work safe.
