A new year brings new posters. What do you think?

By Calissa Reid

The start of a new year always holds such promise. Maybe this will be the year you fall in love, get that big promotion, or lose that extra five— OK, maybe 10—pounds that have slowly crept on over the past few years.

Here at Heads Up, we have big plans for 2014. Earlier this year, we launched our new advertisements to remind us all to work smart and work safe. You can spot them in university and restaurant restrooms across the province, and on Edmonton and Calgary’s busses and trains.

This year, we revisited our roots and created simple, text-based posters. We got a little cheeky and decided to take advantage of the fact that people would be reading these posters while in the washroom or on transit.

The message — “Why not ask the guy beside you for help?” — means one thing at work and something completely different if you’re standing at a urinal. We wanted to grab your attention and get you thinking. I may be biased, but I think we’ve done that.  Here are some of my favourite advertisements we’ve created for this year.

This poster will be in male washrooms across the province.

One of the ads that will be shown in the ladies room.

I think we’ve all had this nightmare before. This will be in the Edmonton and Calgary trains.

These are my top three picks, but I’d love to hear what you think of our new ads. We just added all of the posters on the homepage of our website, headsupab.com for you to take a look at. If there is enough interest we will make them available for order as posters to display at your workplace — free of charge, of course! Our main message at Heads Up is to work smart and work safe, and if we can make you smile, that’s pretty great too.
